Description:

Cancelled on account of the COVID-19 pandemic.  All the best to our friends during a difficult time.  We hope you'll join us for future outings when gatherings in groups of people is safe again.

Join us for a beautiful spring day in Topanga Canyon State Park. We are hiking to Skull Rock via Temescal Canyon, which offers panoramic views of the ocean and Santa Monica.  Please note this is a provisional leader hike.

Distance - 4 miles

Difficulty - Intermediate

Elevation gain - 1000 feet

This moderate hike is a loop hike, returning to the trailhead barely retracing your steps.

We will start by climbing the Temescal ridge route to the junction with the Skull Rock trail. After the initial switchbacks from the trailhead, the trail rises and falls over the Ridgeline to Skull Rock.  We return to the Temescal Ridge Trail and descend into Temescal Canyon past a small waterfall that has some water. We then pass through a wooded area, back to the parking lot.

There is parking in Gateway Park. The fee is about $10.00. If you don't mind walking a bit farther, there is free parking available on Temescal Canyon Blvd. just south of Sunset Boulevard.

Meet at the picnic tables at the parking lot closest to Sunset Blvd.

Bring two liters of water and a light snack, a windbreaker and a hat for the sun.

Dogs are not allowed on this trail. Please leave Fido at home.
