Description:

Did you ever think you'd learn the ins and outs of composting through Yelp?! Me either, but Yelp is hosting free virtual events and a local business in the Rochester, New York area (Community Composting) is going to teach how to start composting!

Please note this is an informational posting and that the 20s & 30s Section is not the organizer of this event nor creating its content. Please refer to the Yelp event description here or as reported below:

"Interested in composting but not sure how or where to start? This 30 minute quick class with Community Composting will briefly touch on what composting is, why composting is important, some various types of composting methods, and how composting can inevitably create a sustainable lifestyle for you. Questions and discussion encouraged!

Did you know ...There are about 700,000 people living in the greater Rochester area. If everyone composted their organics at home it would result in about 600,000 tons of compostable materials diverted from the landfill every year. That is the greenhouse gas equivalency of taking ~220,000 cars off the road! We would also have much healthier soil and wouldn't have to rely on artificial fertilizers to grow food. Learn more about Community Composting: communitycomposting.org

Zoom meeting room code (and instructions!) will be sent out via confirmation email the week of the event! Free event with required RSVP! Remember to bring some questions for our friends at Community Composting. Questions/concerns? Email rochester@yelp.com."

You MUST RSVP on the event listing here. Otherwise, you will not receive the information to join the Zoom. Also, please note the event takes place on the East Coast (7pm EST; 4pm PST).

This is an informational posting only. The 20s & 30s Section does not endorse Yelp, Compositing Community, nor Zoom.

Participants will explore highlights of five lesser known parks spanning the country from Dry Tortugas in Florida to Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska to the National Park of American Samoa in the South Pacific Ocean. Description:

While we can't get out to hike, travel, and adventure right now due to COVID-19, what we can do is read about the outdoors! Pick up our first book club pick, A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson, and join us for a virtual gathering on Thursday, June 18th, 2020 at 5:00pm Pacific Time to discuss our thoughts about the book in addition to our longings for our next great adventure!

Register here to receive an email containing the Zoom Meeting ID and password for the book club discussion.

A copy of the book club selection, A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, can be purchased via Amazon. Or rather, please consider supporting your local independent bookstore.

Described as "an almost perfect travel book" by the Boston Globe, A Walk in the Woods: Rediscovering America on the Appalachian Trail takes us from Georgia to Maine while covering some of the most breathtaking terrain in America—majestic mountains, silent forests, sparking lakes. If you’re going to take a hike, it’s probably the place to go. And Bill Bryson is surely the most entertaining guide you’ll find. Bill will introduce us to the history and ecology of the trail and to some of the other hardy (or just foolhardy) folks he meets along the way—and a couple of bears. Already a classic, A Walk in the Woods will make us long even more for the great outdoors!

Enjoy the book! Hope to see you on Thursday, June 18th at 5:00pm Pacific Time on Zoom!
