Description:

Having trouble finding a place to get vaccinated against COVID-19?  We've learned that the vaccination site atop Mt. Whitney is already vaccinating all age groups.  So we're on our way and hope you'll join us!

The details of this April 1st outing are below, but first we'd like to let you know when the Sierra Club and our section will come out of the COVID-induced hybrination:

--> On April 8th, we'll have a meeting to plan outings for the summer. Please join us! Everyone is welcome! Find the event at the following link:  http://www.sc2030.org/constructor.php?nav_element=19&url_EventId=3394

--> The Sierra Club currently plans to allow in-person events to resume early in July.  So check our website well before that.

Now to the details of our "April 1st Vaccination Hike:"

Join us as we day-hike to the peak of Mt. Whitney (14,505') this Thursday. We'll be meeting at Whitney Portal in the morning and hiking briskly to the peak.  After a vaccination atop Mt. Whitney, we'll remain there for 15 minutes under observation in case anyone has a severe reaction to the vaccine.  Then we'll head back to our cars before dark and drive home.

Please bring at least 3L of water, hiking footwear and clothing layers for various weather conditions and a face mask.  Carpooling outside of one's household is discouraged because of the pandemic.

Participants must be at least 16 years old, have no prior history of allergic reactions to vaccines, and have no symptoms of COVID.

Interested? Please read the title of the outing again and check the date:  It's April Fool's Day!

Cancellation Policy:
April 1st is never cancelled. I hope you enjoy this April Fool's joke and that you'll join us for the April 8th planning meeting. If you find this April Fool's Joke offensive, I (Rolf) apologize).

Description from Amazon

"For twelve years, Andrea Lankford lived in the biggest, most impressive national parks in the world, working a job she loved. She chaperoned baby sea turtles on their journey to sea. She pursued bad guys on her galloping patrol horse. She jumped into rescue helicopters bound for the heart of the Grand Canyon. She won arguments with bears. She slept with a few too many rattlesnakes.

Hell yeah, it was the best job in the world! Fortunately, Andrea survived it.

In this graphic and yet surprisingly funny account of her and others’ extraordinary careers, Lankford unveils a world in which park rangers struggle to maintain their idealism in the face of death, disillusionment, and the loss of a comrade killed while holding that thin green line between protecting the park from the people, the people from the park, and the people from each other. Ranger Confidential is the story behind the scenery of the nation’s crown jewels—Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Great Smokies, Denali. In these iconic landscapes, where nature and humanity constantly collide, scenery can be as cruel as it is redemptive."

Note: The Sierra Club and 20s & 30s Section does not endorse the book, Andrea Lankford, Amazon, Bookshop, nor Zoom.
